Vandals cause $100K damage in Cumberland County

(WBIR - Cumberland County) The search is on for vandals who caused more than $100,000 worth of damage to businesses in Cumberland County.

The Sheriff's Office said suspects vandalized trucks and equipment at Rocky Ridge Stone Company and Flat Rock Concrete Company last week.

FEMA in East Tenn. assessing February storm damage

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is in East Tennessee, checking records to see how much area counties spent in response to February storms for possible reimbursement.

The agency is expected to be here about a week.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said it has already completed an initial assessment of the damage and submitted it to FEMA. According to TEMA's report, 40 counties throughout the state surpass the threshold FEMA requires to apply for assistance.

Outages improving week after winter storms blast East Tennessee

(WBIR) Many East Tennessee residents are still without power -- though that number is slowly decreasing.

Volunteer Energy reported Sunday evening that 1,547 homes are currently experiencing outages, with the majority coming from Cumberland County. This number is down from Saturday morning's 4,564.

The outages occurred in relation to last week's winter weather, which saw inches of snow and ice coating the area, causing accidents and fallen trees.

Man arrested for fatally shooting girlfriend

Cumberland County authorities have detained a Crossville resident in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

They are in the process of booking Matthew Howard, who will be charged with first degree murder, officials said.

"It is early into the investigation and little information can be released at this time, but investigat

ors are currently investigating this case as a homicide," Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox said.

High school JROTC program garners national attention

(WBIR - Fentress County) Students from Clarkrange High School are bringing their team to the top of the nation. The JROTC Raiders Team gives a different look to school athletics.

The Clarkrange Raiders Team has always been a dream for First Sergeant Gil Sandoval.

"Since I came into ROTC I saw that as a program and thought it would be neat to have them run through the woods and swim streams and climb ropes and low crawl through the mud. And kids love being outdoors and doing things like that," said Sandoval.

Woman charged with killing boyfriend's father

A Jamestown woman is charged with killing her boyfriend's elderly father.

According to the TBI, the body of Clay York Sherrill, 88, was discovered in his home on E. Mark Twain Avenue on November 24th.
