Big South Fork storytelling festival hits 20th year

Big South Fork storytelling festival hits 20th year

For two decades, thousands of people have traveled to Big South Fork to be spooked at the nationally known, Haunting in the Hills storytelling festival.

The event attracts around 3,000 people each year to its site near the Fentress and Scott County line. There, hundreds of attendees sleep overnight in the nearby Bandy Creek Campground.

National Park Service Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas said it is an event they would like to see even grow more in the future.

"Stories must be told, or they are lost", she said.

This year's flu shots becoming available

This year's flu shots becoming available

Flu season is just around the corner, and already drug stores and doctor's offices have supplies of this year's vaccine.

The shots will be available to patients by the end of the month.

But if you get your shot now, will you be protected all season? The Centers for Disease Control says "yes."

The CDC recommends that people get their shots as soon as possible. It suggests everyone from six months old and older get a yearly vaccine.

One local flu shot clinic opens Tuesday.

Salesmen are getting ready for the world's largest yard sale which is set to begin Thursday.

The Highway 127 yard sale runs from Michigan to Alabama, crossing through Cumberland and Fentress counties.

This is the yard sale's 25th anniversary, and organizers say it's been steadily growing year after year to nearly 700 miles long.

You can find everything from second-hand clothes to produce from local vendors.

The yard sale wraps up on Sunday.
