Cumberland Co. wildfire being investigated as arson

Officials are investigating a wildfire in Cumberland County as arson. The fire burned 350 acres in Crab Orchid on October 30.

The Tennessee Division of Forestry says it took crews 24 hours to get the fire under control, and while crews fought that fire, four more fires were started.

More than a dozen state personnel along with volunteer firefighters fought the blazes.

The State Department of Agriculture is investigating the fire.

Murder investigation puts Fairfield Glade residents on edge

A quiet retirement community is shaken by a murder investigation in their neighborhood.

The body of Kimberly Batty, 58, was found in her Fairfield Glade home by a friend Wednesday night.

Batty worked at the Fairfield Glade community center. Sheriff Butch Burgess said she was from Kansas and had moved recently. She did not have family in the area, but did have children.

Neighbors describe the community, filled with golf courses, a lake, and community center, as tight nit.

"It's just a great place, we thought, to live," said resident Barbara Storer.

Woman found murdered in Fairfield Glades home

The TBI and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office are investigating the murder of a woman that lived in the Fairfield Glades area.

TBI says a friend found the body of Kimberly Batty, 58, in her home on Dovenshire Drive in Crossville last night.

They are releasing no information about how she was killed.

No arrests have been made.

Cumberland Co. couple faces animal cruelty charges

A Cumberland County couple is now charged with animal cruelty, after a raid at their home this summer.

A grand jury indicted Thomas Uchytil and his wife Marci Uchytil on charges of cruelty to animals.

Marci Uchytil is also charged with obstruction of a legal writ, for allegedly interfering with officers at the scene.

Deputies served a search warrant at the couple's home on Fox Road back in June and found 33 dogs.  Some were in the homen while others were tied to trees and fences.

Cumberland Co. man shot during altercation over his arrest

A Cumberland County deputy is on administrative leave with pay, after fatally shooting a man he was attempting to arrest this weekend.

According to a press release from Cumberland County Sheriff Butch Burgess, Deputy Jonathan Human was responding to a trespassing complaint on Spooner Drive in the Mayland Community.

Deputy Human was attempting to arrest David Lee Fish, II, 41, of Cumberland County, when an altercation occured.  During the altercation, Deputy Human fired his weapon and Fish was shot.
